ashes and snow

The project was first shown in 2002, but I just happened to see the film of Ashes and Snow last night. It is a such a profound dream of human harmony with the natural world. Gregory Colbert’s calls his work, a “vertical experience”, inspired by ancient myths, where all of our senses are engaged and awakened, inspiring us to “reverse the separation that exists between modern man and animals, and to nestle the ideological values of co-existence, respect, equality, preservation and conservation.” The beauty of the imagery still aches my heart. As one who feels a deep connection with animals, I hope that somewhere at sometime, humans did, and do, have such a lyrical and natural connection with wildness and wild animals.
